MANY SAD HEARTS

DISAPPOINTED CHILDREN HEAVY WEATHER AT RUSSELL (8y Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") EUSSELL, 25 th February. About two hundred children with their parents, went to Eussell to-day to visit the Eonown, but the sea was so rough at the .anchorage that it was not deemed wise to allow them to go alongside iv launches, and they had to return hojne, sad and disappointed. They were able to see the battle cruiser at a distance froni the hills at the back of Eussell. A special train brought the visitors from Ohaeawai, Kaikohe, Otiria, and Kawakawa to Opua, whence they Were conveyed by launch to Eussell. Others came by launch from settlements along the many inlets of the bay. Most of them embarked on launches at Eussell and set out.for the Eenown, but before reaching Tapeka Point, where the worst of the storm would have been encountered, they met an incoming Government launch, whoso officers advised against venturing out. Most of the launches turned back at once, but one well-laden rounded the point and got such a dusting that all on board were glad when the master turned and ran for shelter. in the day another launch, with "a limited number of passengers, cruised round the Eeiiown. The Hea by this time was very _ heavy. ''. The Eenown was not showing much movement, but the sea was surging ip and down her sides, at times reaching tlu top row of port holes along her aftar-part, below the quarter-deck. The Eoyal barge was hauled aboard thjs morning, and before noon all the' ship's boats, and launches were hoisted on deck. No leave was granted to the crew to-day, owing to the unfavourable conditions. The Eenown left at 9 p.m. for Auckland. <;
