EMPRESS THEATRE.
The directors responsible'for the filming of "The Adventurous.Sex," now. showin? at the-Empress Theatre, have certainly made the most of the attractive theme. The story shows to what ends modern youth will go' in its search for feverish excitement, careless of the train of sorrow it leaves. At the same time the tale asks for a little more common-sense on the part of parents in dealing with those children who! are never at home. Clara Bow has the leading role, that of a modern young miss who gets herself embroiled m a wayside inn scandal; she is engaged to a fine fellow, an aviation expert, who tries to stem her downward trend. But modern youth must have its fling, at the expense of its own peace of mind and that of its parents, and the heroine, doubted alike by friends and lover, has thoughts of self-destruction. This has given an excellent opportunity for a thrilling rescue from Niagara's teeming rapids by a low-flying aeroplane; The acting of Herbert liawlinsou and Earle Williams is exceptionally good. Flora Pinch is in.the cast as a modern grandmother. In the second feature, Anita Stewart, always a favourite, plays opposite Edmund > Bums in a particularly appealing story, "The Lodge, in the Wilderness." A city girl loves a forest engineer who' is wrongly imprisoned, and the latter makes a sensational escape from confinement by means -of an aeroplane, this being a real thrill, as is also the huge forest five; the love story is simple and sweet. The scenes showing the arrival ■ of the Duke and Duchess of York in .Auckland are remarkably clear for a wet day, while the formation of the'living flag in brilliant sunshine is a picture none should miss. The orches-' tra plays incidental music.
