1 ANNUAL CONFERENCE TERM OF OFFICE (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Pest.") PALMBRSTON N., 10th February. The followng remits were carried at the Municipal Association's Conference which concluded to-day:— "That all fines in connection ■ ■with breaches of tho heavy traffic regulations be handed over to the prosecuting local authority."—(Masterton). . " "That the term of office for Mayor and councillors o£ a municipal body should be for. a longer period than the present term of two years."—(Mosgiel). "That, the Government be urged to considerably expand the provisions of seer tion 298 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1920, dealing with the improvement of insanitary areas within . a borough' specified."—(Dunedin).' "That the Governmen re requested to so amend section 45 and. subsequent sections of the Valuation of Land Act as to remove the provision from the A.ct enabling a ratepayer not satisfied ': with his value, as fixed by the Assessment Court, to offer his land to the Crown at his own valuation thereby, considerably reducing the valuation of his present property, and seriously affecting the valuation of the district for rating purposes."—(Whakatane). . ■ The following officers were elected for the ensuing year President, Mr. W. Lock, W"' Nelson; vice-presidents, Mayors of Wellington Auckland, Christchurch, JJunedm, and Palmerston North; executive, Mayors of Dannevirke, Greymouth, Wanganui, Invercargill, Timaru, Upper Hutt, and Newmarket (borough), and chairmen, of Johnsonville and New Lynn (town boards); treasurer, Mr. T. F. Martin. ■ ■ * . It was decided to hold the nest conference at Nelson. A vote of thanks was accorded the past president, Mr. F. J. Nathan (Palmerston North), on the motion of Mr C J ' B Norwood (Wellington), who paid tribute to the.relationship the retiring officer had established between the executire and the Government on the various matters lortneoming from the last conference
