The fortnightly • sitting of the Upper J Hutt Magistrate's Court was held on Wednesday, before Mr. E. Page, S.M. ■ 2: Arthur So&thee was charged by • tlie : S.P.C.A;,;.for wiom'.Mr.: A. J.'Mazengarb appeared, with cruelly in-treating, a sheep. Accused did not appear. As the accused had the right of-trial by jury, Mr. Page said he was not prepared to proceed with it. ■ Mr. Mazengarb said he believed Mr.r.W, G. Riddel!, 5.M.,. had : ruled .that- aa accused person-not appearing: forfeited Ais Tight to thp^ option- of ' trial by jury. Mr. Page .said he Tvas not aware of such.a ruling, but to overcome the difficulty would issue a warrant for ' the arrest of.
