SEWERAGE PRIVILEGES

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post."), • PALMEKSTON N., This Day. A Masterton remit, "That residents nving outside a borough be allowed thg privilege of connecting their properties with the borough sewer," was considered yesterday at the Municipal Conference. The adoption was moved by Mr. T. Jordan, who said that the remit, had been carried at the previous conference. Mr. E. M'Keen asked the mover- if' he would add the words "on the payment of rates." Otherwise, lie stated, people, could have their properties connected with the service, and could then refuse to pay a-ates. The only redress the borough council would have would be to cut them off. / The president (Mr. F. J. Nathan) said that to his knowledge certain boroughs allow the sewerage service to be used by people living outside the boundaries, and made an annual charge. Such people did not have to pay the rates. Mr. Barton (Hamilton) stated that, it was for a local body to deal with tliß question as it arose. The remit was carried.
