The council 'of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last evening agreed that letters be sent to Mr. Maurice Cohen and to Sir Joseph Ward, conveying the council's heartfelt sympathy with them in their bereavement. Mr. Paul Eastham, after several years' residence in England and Italy, is returning to Wellington via Capetown and Sydney, and should arrive in New Zealand about the end of next month, A' Press Association cablegram from 'London, states that at the opening of Parliament the New Zealanders present among the special gueßts included Mr. F. N. Bartram, M.P. for Grey Lynn, arid Mrs.'Bartramj and Mr. B. E. Hayes, Secretary of the Treasury. Subsequently the Empire Parliamentary Association gave . a luncheon which was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Bartram, arid Miss Ispbel Wilf ord, daughter of Mr..T. M. Wilford, M;P. Advice ; was .received this morning by Mr. H. .G. ißedell, of 17, Chilka street, : Berhampore, that his son, Mr. Thorp ■Bedell, who ..was struck by a .train and severely; injured while on duty *; at Ohakune Junction last Wednesday, was in a sinking condition. Mr. Bedell, senr., left this afternoon for Taihape, ■where his son lies in hospital. Mr. T. .Bedell was a pupil'at Wellington College, and before Mb transfer to Ohakune played with distinction for the .Berhampore Rugby Football Club.
