(Special to "The Evening Post.")
CHBISTCHTJKCH, This Day.
Some strong criticism was aimed at the Bailway Department by members of the Canterbury Yachting Association) who met to discuss the Sanders Cup contest. It was reported that a deputation had asked the, railway officials at Christchurch to grant a concession on the extra fares for the travelling public during the week of the contest. The reply was that an extra 3d would be placed on first-class fares, and an extra 2nd on the second-class faros. The extra charges would then be rebated to the association, less 4J per cent, as a collecting.fee. This arrangement was to operate for the two Saturdays. "We will put pounds into the pockets of the railway people, and yet they propose to fleece the public and thus give us a donation," said Mr. F. E. Sutton. "It's a scaiidalous affair."
"It is a rotten sch, eme,". said Mr. J. Waddell. "They have us in their hands." ■ .
.Mr. A. K. Smith: "In the old regatta days the railway people computed the numbers likely to travel and .then gave us a rebate."
No, action was decided upon. At its meeting yesterday the Lyttelton Harbour Board made a grant of £25 towards the funds of the Sanders Cup ■Entertainment Committee.
