"WILLING- TO PAY FINES
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. "Of course, it is absurd. They pay this as a kind of tax to go on dealingon Sunday," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday in imposing the maximum fine of £5 on Stephen Shelton, who was charged "with keeping his shop open for the purpose of Sunday trading. It was stated that this was the defendant's four Hi offence. "He said that he made more on Sunday than during the rest of the week," said a constable when Rowland Hill was charged with a similar offence. The defendant's shop . was opposite the Auckland Hospital. According to the constable, the defendant said that, if it were not for Sunday trade, he could not caTry on. A fine of £2 was imposed.
