A POPULAR CAMP
Some particulars : taken from the Wanganui Automobile Association's visitors' book at the Aramoho camping site have been embodied 'in a letter to the Wanganui Borough Council. "From 22nd,December to ,18th January over 100 parties of from two to eleven persons camped at the site, some only staying 6ne>day, while .others were there for over a week., '.The.total number of visitors exceeded 500, and there, was an average of between nine and teii cars parked there every day. The greatest number -of tents^pit.ehed on one day was 33j as against , { last year's, record of' 13., It is-easily seen that the camp site is going to,become increasingly popular,'and your council is to be commended on providing a site which from-all reports: is easily the most up-to-date'in the North Island..
;;. "Wo think we can safely say that the camp site has been this year,, and still is, one of'the besttedyertisements that the city h,as had; for many years, and a revenue earning one at that. Many jof our members who have made camping tours during,th§ holidays have heard, When many miles from Wanganui, glowing reports of Wanganui's camp.site. '
"A word of praise must also be given to the council's caretaker, Mr. Anderson, whose courtesy and attention to visitors have been greatly appreciated, as an examination of tin visitors' book (jrill show.
"Although the camp was s used by "only a Jfew of our own members, we must convey to the council the thanks and appreciation of all members of affiliated associations who visited tie camp during the holidays/: It is .onl> hoped that other, councils and'associations will reciprocate by providing similar sites for our own members."
• One of the' best-known of the -Brooklands drivers, Mr. G-.: N.- JSTorris, met his death' recently at the Ulster Automobile Club's speed trials at Magilligan Sands, Londonderry. During the ten-mile handicap he swerved to avoid a big, wave running up on the sand. The car'skidded. He rectified thisj but a tube then burst and the car overturned. The speed at the time was about 95 milesi an hour; Mr; iSforris landed on his head on the radiator cap, and was killed practically, instantaneously. - • ,
