PLUNKET SHIELD

LOCAL PLAYERS PROMINENT

Performances in the Auckland-Wel-lington Plunket Shield match have ae-' counted for some changes in the lists of averages} although Wellington players are stillprominently placed. James was previously at the top of the list of batting averages, but has now given place to Ijowry, who made his first century in Plunket Shield cricket in the recent match at Auckland. Hiddleston, although adding only 29 runs in two visits to the crease at Auckland, retains third place. Thus, Wellington players are in the first three places. Fourth on the list is ißowley, who has made a big moyj as a result of jus 95, not out, against Wellington. Then comes Bad-" cock, the Wellington coach, who placed -another good score to his account in one innings at Auckland. Player, with a small aggregate, is in sixth place, this prominence being due to the fact that has has been not out three times in five visits to the crease. First among the South Islanders is Page, who is followed by the Aucklanders Mills and Dacre, and then comes Blunt. The leading twenty are made up as 'follows:—Seven from Wellington, six from Auckland, four from Otago, and three from Canterbury. .

In the bowling department'"Wellington players are also to the fore, Lambert, Henderson, and Badcock occupying the first three places. Prior to the 'Auckland-Wellington match Badcock was on top, with Henderson second, while Lambert was' fifteenth. Lam : berts jump to first place is accounted for by.his four wickets .against Auckland. Henderson added seven, wickets to his bag, and with a total of twelve for two matches has done exceedingly -well.
