SHANGHAI, 23rd January.

The decision of the British Chamber Of Commerce at Hankow that British banks, shipping companies, and merchants should resume trade on the 24th January, was reached after consultation with' Sir Edward 0 'Malley, Secretary of the Legation. It was felt that this would be a gesture of confidence in the Chinese, and assist in creating an atmosphere favourable to the negotiations in regard to the British Concession now in progress. '

Advices from Siangtau in the Hunan Province state that there was a big anti-British parade there on 16th January. The mob set fire to the Asiatic Petroleum Company's installation. The fire destroyed 2000 tin 3. of oil and the company's buildings. Anti-Christian agitation is rampant.
