OTAGO LAKES

VISITOR IMPRESSED

(By Teicgraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. Professor Walter Geisler, Professor of Geography a t the Halle University, Germany, who is studying not only Pe ology, but also agriculture .and the inclustnes of the Dominion for use in his lectures, has returned to Dunedin after a visit to Lakes To Anau and Manapoun.

Charming and wonderful indeed " was the description given by Professor Geisler of tho lakes. He said that lie had been altogether surprised with the wonderful beauty, but unfortunately he had not had sufficient time on this trip to devote to a closer study" of the formation of. the Fiord country. How,did the Cold Lakes-qf New Zealand compare with those in Switzerland? Dr. Geisler said that was a difficult question to answer, as each country had its individual scenic features, but he would say that the lakes of Otago were vastly impressive, through their being so. close to Nature. In Switzerland there were towns and castles by the lakes, but these were absent from Otago's lakes, which were grand in their natural beauty. One of the finest stretches of coast scenery he had seen in his world travels was that between Dunedin and Palmerston South. The country in the South Island was grand, and reminded him more of Europe than Australia did.
