Ihis conclusion, though novel in its ap-iß-ation, does, not amount to more thin a finding that, as ln the economics o£ an nrmy or a great business organisation, so in the econonu.cs of a nation; a headquarters or governing effice ataflj h, ieqXfced
whose function is to ascertain, co-ordinate and make available to leaders and rank ■and file the essential facts of the enterprise.
This need of a fact-finding Department of Government is an essential feature of economics (i.e., order or method), which is simply the natural process or procession of life; a process that is controlled in every branch and unit in accordance with one purpose/ and three governing principles that are familiar to everyone. It need not be a more difficult or expensive or.lengthy process to ascertain, and keep the public in constant touch with, tlu economic facts of our national peace enterprise 'than it was to ascertain and keep the leaders and rank and file of our •army in touch with the economic facts of their war enterprise. , ! The facts could be easily and cheaply ascertained on a permanent basis i£ the necessary legislative authority were given to some existing department of government.—l am, etc., P. G. DALZIELL.
