FEENCH CROWN CONCESSION-

VANCOUVEE, 28th'Dec.
Proceedings have been instituted in the Supreme Court of Canada, involving the ownership of land in the / city of Quebec by the first European to receive a concession from the King of France in February, 1626—just three hundred years.ago.
Upwards of 1800 men and women, domiciled in various places from Louisiana to Shanghai, claim to be \ descendants, now in the eighth generation, of Louis Hebert, of Quebec City, who was given a grant known as "the noble.fief on the Sault ' au Matelot," which constituted him, "his heirs, asses°sors, and assigns," owners of a large block of land abutting on the St. Lawrence Biver, a 8 a reward for his persistent efforts in clearing and. cultivating it. The letters patent bear the royal seal of Louis XIII., King of France, and are countersigned by His Eminence Cardinal Eicheliou, Prime Minister of the
