AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The main business of the Flaxrnillers' Conference: yesterday was concluded in' the morning,'but at a short sitting in the •afternoon it was decided, in effect,' to make the conference an annual one. Air. A. Seifert presided. ■ .\ ; , ' ' ■ v! Mr. E. Goldfinch (Levin and' Go.) m•- -• ported that the committee had during the adjournment 'a successful interview with Mr. A. H. Cockayne, Director of the Fields Division of the Agricultural Department. Mr. Cockayne was in full accord with the proposed procuring of Bani-, pies, and the Department was prepared to accord the scheme every possible, assistance. "Prom the attitude he takes up," added the speaker, "I ■ believe ; wehave found the basis of a friendly working agreement:'He was pleased to know. i that the. Government system of grading was supported. Summed'up, I think this ■conference, to-day has been productive of really excellent results." (Applause). Mr. A. Seifert said he was.satisfied thaf the Department intended to go'wholeheartedly into the samples question. '..■"'. It was moved by Mr. M. F. Bourke, seconded by Mr. MDonald (Canterbury), and carried, that a /meeting be held an-* nually by all parties interested in th<3 fkx industry...ftji 1;. the purpose of exchanging ideas and generally to further the interests of the industry.. ■. :. ': \ ■'■'.■ Mr. Frost (Auckland) supported -'the resolution, and in advocating that it' be held in, the winter, urged that millers throughout the Dominion be invited. He suggested that the secretary of ths - New. Zealand Flaxmillers' Association be asked to circularise flaxmillers outside the Wellington province, providing them'.W'th details of the present conference, md. soliciting the. support they could give by. becoming members of the New Zealand Flax-1 millers' Association. ; r. .

Mr. Maddren (Christchurch), speaking on behalf of the manufacturers, thought thut the New Zealand Association should advise manufacturers, from time- to time, about any matters of interest discussed at the Flaxniillers' Association's meetings. On the in'otiou of Mr. Brown. (Waikanae), seconded by Mr. S. A. Loiisuet, it was decided to ask the Agriculture Department to appoint a permanent instructor for millers, and it was generally agreed that the appointment of Mr. Ferris to this post would give satisfaction.
