WAIRARAPA BOARD

The Wairarapa Power Board met at Cartertou yesterday, Mr. J. W. Kershaw presiding. The revenue for December was £3983 10s 4d, less discounts allowed £1198 16s 3d. The net revenue, £2784 14s Id, was as under: —Masterton, £1207 4s sd; Carterton, £582 6s 7d; Greytown, £216 3s 2d; Featherston, £382 16s sd; Martinborough (Nov.) £842 11s Id; Martinborough (Dec), £752 8s Bd.
The matter 'bf a charge per unit for electric light Jo sports grounds was referred to the Finance Committee to report, j s It was mentioned that a certain amount of dissatisfaction existed amongst some of the suppliers who are using milking motors. A meeting was held at Otaraia, which was attended by the chairman and engineer. Full figures and information were supplied and apparently the consumers were satisfied with the explanation given. The misunderstanding arose through the consumers working out tho season on a month's reading of 5J weeks. > > - A summary has been taken out of the running costs of the various motor vehicles which the board has r use. Excluding depreciation, the average running cost per mile works out at 3.03 d- . covers benzine, oil, tires, and repairs. <
The secretary said that if the net revenue for the month, £2784 14s Id, was maintained until the end of: the financial year the estimate would be exceeded by an-/appreciable amount. The peak load periods still remained the same, though the actual peaks showed a general 1 reduction of about 50 k.v.a.
No objections were lodged to the special rating rolls for Pirinpa and Lake 1 erry. The polls will be taken on sth February. The whole of thedeben-' tures issue \ in connection with the Longbush, Ponatahi,.. and Ahiaruhe special loans have been disposed of Applications for further debentures have been received sufficient to cover the PiriU.oa and Lake Ferry loans. It. was decided to. purchase a light delivery truck for use in Masterton and to transfer the vehicles at present in use there to Greytown. The board has fourteen motor vehicles. The, consumers connected up total 2828, as under:—Masterton 1227 Carterton 632; Greytown 209, Featherston 091, Martinborough 369. The ranges ia the"ward kitchens and the main kitchen at Mastorton.and out-
side hospitals are now in operation. Tho sterilisers and urns have been installed. All appliances so far installed are reported to be working very satisfactorily.. The work of changing over the hot water system in each ward is now in progress. Both plants at Kourarau have been running continuously in parallel with Mangahao for the past month. The concrete wall at the upper dam has been erected, and the pug inserted. After the water in the dam was raised to within Ift of the spillway no sign of leakage could be found. The work of filling the gut of the down stream side of the embankment has been" completed. . ' With the exception of a few minor adjustments at the Waingapi substations, everything hasjbe'en working satisfactorily. .Approximately 75 per cent, 'of the alterations required by the Government inspector have been completed, and the balance will be completed this month. i. The tree-foiling gang is operating in the Dalefield district. '
