From 46 applicants, Mr. G. T. O'Hara Smith, at present assistant Town Clerk at Nelson, has been appointed Town Clerk at Dannevhke, states a Press Association telegram.
Mr. A. J. M'Curdy (Mayor of Upper Hutt) and Councillor W. Grcig will attend tho conference of the Municipal Association at Palmerston North on lGth February as delegates from the Upper Hutt Borough Council.
A Press Association telegram from Dunedin reports the death, at the age of CO, of Mr. Neil Galbraith, manager of John Mill and Co. Ho was, formerly manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company. Ono time ■ lie was chairman of the committee and treasurer of the New Zealand Eugby Union. Ho was manager of the All Blacks in Australia in .1905, and conducted Sievright's English team throughout 'New Zealand.' He was * prominently connected with rowing at Wellington and Lyttelton. Ho was married and leaves a family" of three.' Mr. Galbraith died in his sleep.
;The death occurred at his residence, Aupka street, ,Brooklyn, yesterday, of Captain 'J. H. B. Holdsworth, a wellknown and respected member of the .Wellington Bowling Club. The late Captain Holdsworth, who was. an Australian, came here from Melbourne eight years ago, and settled in retirement.., He was a South African veteran, having' served in. that war with the Australian Forces. The late Captain Hold/worth, "who was' married recently,' was a popular member of the bowling club, where ho made many friends, and out of respect to his memory the club's flag was fldwn at halfmast to-day. In his young days he enjoyed the Teputatiqn -of a cricketer in Australia. The tiffin was at' Mr. W. Wakeford Cox's house, and, in .addition to Mr. and Mr 3. Cox, there were present Air. and, Mrs. Herbert C. Pileher and Mr. and Mrs.. Hairy Croinbie. Messrs. Cox, Crombie, "and Pilchor were^in 1891 all attached" to the Wellington branch of the South British,• Insurance Com. pany. Miv Cox is manager for China of-that company. Mr. Ciombio is manager for the Far East of the Phoenix Assurance Company, Limited, and of its allied offices, the London Guarantee and Accident Company, the .National Union, Society, and'the Union Marine Insurance Company, Limited. He is retiring at the end of this year after nearly thirty-hve years in the Far East, and intends'to settle with his family in England. Mr. Herbert C.
