COW ON THE SPREE
AND BULL WHO STOPPED TRAINS.
There was something spring-like in the English air one day recently, which inspired.tlie cattle world-with an irresistible desire to -Tseo lifey?t.(remarks the London ."Daily. News?');" A cow went to the "pictures" at Woking and a bull entered a railway'"station near Tunbridge Wells, a:\d, failing to get: a ticket, held up the raihvay traffic. -. ■ The cow, breaking away from Wok"ing. railway station, first of all visited a. draper's shop, inspected two departments and then. left. After'shopping, the "pictures." ""Entering; the Palace' Cinema,/the cow walked upstairs to the balcony, and .listened, from the front row to the orchestra at rehearsal. Presently it turned and went out by an emergency exit, walking carefully down some 20 iron, steps. Then-it changed its mind and Went :back to see if tha pictures had begun:- But a startled woman cleaner had closed the door. /Unable to turn to de"scend,;:the cow made itself comfortable, on the landing for four hours,; as if awaiting the opening of the early'doors. Whenthe. door' was opened the cow entered thp balcony, looked around, and then, consented to leave. ;. ':.::.'. :..'"• Meanwhile, a bull, having escaped from a field near Tunbridge Wells, was attracted apparently -by. the name of a' southern railway station,. •' Cpwden." It walked boldly into the station, and when challenged b-y the ticket collector, took sudden offence at his red tie and chased him half a milo up the line. The railwayman escaped. The bull thereupon entered a long -tunnel and refused to move—with the result that the train service between. Oxted and Tunbridge Wells was disorganised-to such an extent that special trains had to be run on other routes to relieve the congestion., '■ '...-.' ..;. An attacking, party,.,: armed with,' ropes, sticks, and electric torches, en-.' tered the tunnel, to. be greeted with' loud bellowing by the infuriated animal in possession. At the end of about an hour, during the whole of which time' the 2.15 train.' from Tunbridge Wells' was held up in. Cowden Station, they bull calmed down, was enticed from tha tunnel, and captured". •'.'-'-- V, '
