CENTRE FINAL

WON BY HALLIDAY'S BINK,

; The filial of the Wellington Bowling Centre's annual rink tournament, played at the -Wellington Club's green oh Friday,, was won by the Hataitai rink skipped by G. Halliday, the runn'ers-up being the Hataitai rink skipped by W. Fielding. - . . ■ : The scores were as follows:— Emerson, Cometti, Ardell, Halliday (s) ..- 17 Hunter,. Wearne, Claridge, Fielding (s) 15' Played under a scorching hot sun, •the match was full of interest to the end, and, though the green was keen, thei-e was scarcely a .poor bowl played. With a green so keen the marvel was that the heads generally were so good. The bowls were not scattered all over the. landscape, ; such as one of(jeii sees oii a fast green when it is^diincult to get the touch. .'-■... [ Bight np till .the last three or four heads the contest was especially keen, but thanks to his very accurate driving Feilding was holding the upper hand. , ■ : . At the 18th head, however, Fielding cut out his own nearest bowl, leaving Halliday four shots, and as Halliday got 1 out of the next head, the score was 14 all. The 20th' head gave Fieldinj a single, but at the 21st Halliday emerged the winner. Hunter drew* 1 right on to-, the jack, .but ■ Emerson rested him out. Wearne went through witli his first,,but drew the: shot with his second. Cometti was not far away, and improved the appearance of things, but it was left to Ar dell-to-make 3 of it for Halliday by playing the most manineent drawing shot of the game. Fielding went through the -head with his first, and with his second!-"was wide. At the conclusion of. the game the president of the centre (Mr. S. M. Stone) congratulated the winners on their success, and the Hataitai Club on having, so many rinks in the post-sec-tion play., The conditions had been splendid, and the teams had given a very fine display. He called for cheers for the winners and the runners-up, and these were heartily given.
