SHEPHERD HITS OUT.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, This Day.
The Plunket Shield match -'between' Otago and Auckland was continued this morning in beautiful; weather-arid on a perfect wicket. Otago's innings was continued by Shepherd and A. W. Alloo to the bowling of Matheson ana Allcott. Alloo found the latter troublesome, but Shepherd, who was showing glimpses of . his best form, played 'fairly confidently^ , cutting Allcott to the fence.- He ore-, ceived the gift of a 4- from a throw-in ■ by Dacro. At 171 Bowley took up the I bowling in place of Allcott, who relieved Matheson, three of the latter's 'four overs being maidens. Shepherd drove Bowley straight to the fence and square cut the next ball also for 4. After both had added a single, Shepherd again drove the Englishman loHhe pickets. Fifteen came off this over^ which was the most expensive of the game so far. Alloo brought the second century up after 190 minutes' play. Shepherd was then caught by Gillespie, his 46 taking 67 minutes. 202—5 i 6. _ Wh3n Alloo had been at the crease ' for an hour for 10, he opened out to Bowley, hitting the coach for three and two fours. Blamires, the newcomer, opened with a four off Alcott, but scoring became dolorous againj until Cooper relieved Bowley, Alloo getting him to the pickets once and Blamires twice. The Aucklander got his-length the nejet over, sending down a maiden to Bla- ' mires. Matheson went on in place of Cooper at 252, Blamires placing Otago ' 100 runs ahead, by turning the new bowler to the leg boundary. Player, at the other end, was very steady, only four being hit off five overs. Alloo square-cut Matheson to the fence, and Blamires snicked a lucky one to leg for a couple, driving the next to the boundary. Bowley came on again,, sixteen being hit off .the over, Alloo getting most of th6m with; beautiful leg. shots. Blamires had been at the wickets for an hour for his half-century. Dacre relieved Player, Blamires hooking him for four. His next shot, which went dangerously near tho. bowler's hand, saw 300 hoisted. The last ball before luncheon went rattling to the pickets. N At the adjournment the score was 304 for five wickets. Details:— AUCKLAND. First Tunings 155 OTAGO. First Innings.
