STRAITENED CIRCUMSTANCES
(Received 24th December, 11 a.m.) ADELAIDE, This Day.
Both Battersby anil .his wife arc in a serious condition, but the child is expected to recover. Mrs. Battorsby states that she was .awakened by the sound of a shot, and saw her husband in tho bedroom. Sho went to tho cot where the child was asleep and found him shot. Sho then received a bullet wound in the face. Her husband went in the direction of the room where the other two sons wero sleeping. They wero awakened by the shots, and rau into the front room. The mother fol-lov.-ed, locking tho door. Lator they heard a. shot, and then, all was quiet. When the polico arrived they found on the floor of the kitchen with a revolver by his side.
The Battersbys were a happy family, but wero lately in straitened circumstances. This apparently affoetod the man's mind.
