NEW SOUTH WALES PLAYERS WELCOMED

At the civic reception to the New South Wales tennis team yesterday afternoon, the Mayor,.Mr. George Baildon, said that an occasion such as this could not be allowed to pass without mention of the late Captain Anthony Wilding, who laid doffan his life in the Battle of the M'arne. With Norman Brookes, the Victorian, ,Wilding wrested the Davis Cup from the British players who had just, taken it from the Americans. Mr. E. B. M'Kay, tho manager of tho loam, said ho had brought a strong 'cam to New Zealand. Personally, he ;.ciiisidercd\tha);..it was.an immensely stronger team'than the one which had visited the Dominion three years ago. He felt that on and off the court the members of the team would erato a favourable impression. When sport was properly entered into, it created a feeling of business and friendship, and playing became something more than a game. If the New South Wales boys realised that they made the tour of New;. Zealand not as individuals but as a body representative o fthe Mother State of Australia, they would be doing the right thing. 1 "The visit of the New Zealand players this year gave us great pleasure," said Mr. M'B^ay, "and if you could possibly induco Edgar Bartleot to come across next time you send a team, our aim, end, and ambition would be realised. We have seen Andrews and the other boys. All of them were good, but we, want to see a -representative of Auckland come to New South Wales."
