TROTTING NOTES

(By "Vedette.")

TROTTING FIXTURES.

December 27—Ashburton T.C. December 27—Gore T.C December 27 and 28—South Wairarapa T.C. December 27 arid .28 —Weßtport T.C. December 28, 30, and Sl—Auckland T.C. Dec'ember.3o—Winton T.C. January 1 and 3—Canterbury Park T.C. January 3—Westland T.C. January 5 and o—Greymouth T.C. Everything points to the South Wairarapa Trotting Club's Meeting on Monday and Tuesday being a conspicuous success. The fields will be good, for the acceptances received last evening were in every way satisfactory. E. E. Mills's team made a good im* ■, pression when they were stripped for work after their arrival at Alexandra Park. Prince Pointer and Kutuku Jack claimed the roost attention. Auto Machine and Machine Gun are both going well in their work at Alexandra Park. ■E. C. M'Dermott, whose house was burgled over the week-end in Christ.church,,was the driver of.Master Audo, who won on the'second day. at Hutt iPark.' . ■'■ . " •■•-.■

'• Sea Pearl's victory at New Brighton has brought her more into favour, for the Auckland; Trotting Cup. She.won over a mile,..and.'.a quarter at about-a-2.14 gait. ■The. trottgr Elzear, who is engaged in the" Introductory Handicap on the opening day at Alexandra Park, is evidently well thought of by her connections,. for she has been nominates in tighter classes on the concluding days of the meeting as well as the slow-class events. .

The imported horse Jack Potts is one o£ 'the fancied' horses for the Auckland Trotting Cup. His form afc Addington last month was certainly good enough to give him a great chance, and he is undoubtedly a good one, although he has not rae6d well on two previous visits to Auckland^. Last year he. started third favourite in'the big race at Alexandra Park, hut was never dangerous. It has been stated that he is a bad traveller, but age may have improved him in this respect. Nelson Fame is expected to be a hard horse to beat in short distance races at the coming Auckland Meeting. Good reports are to hand from Canterbury concerning the Eowe Cup candidate Escapade, and the indications point to her being one of the favourites in that event. At her last start Escapade finished third to those good trotters Peterwah and Money Spider in the Dominion Handicap fit Addington,' going 4min 36sec. On that form she seems likely to be very troublesome in her coming engagement, more especially as she is stated to have improved in the meantime. Una Dillon, who is engaged in the Parnell Handicap on the opening day ,o£ the coining meeting at Alexandra Park, is a stable-mate of that good trotter Peterwah, being owned by B. Fisken, of Gisborne. She has not started this season, but was on the winning list at Hastings last June, when she easily accounted for ,the Hastings Handicap, one mile and a quarter, in. 2min 56see. Una Dillon is a four-yeai'-old mare by Harold Dillon from Theda Bara, and is reputed to be a good sort.

The improving Jewel Pointer has been kept moving by J. Shaw since racing last month, and is in Rood trim. He is a gross customer,: who thrives on ' racing, and, '■whatever -he may do-on the first day of a meeting, is always likely to do better on the second. Recent form indicates that Jewel Pointer is likely' to get among the winners at any time now. G-. Phipps'» pair, Black Lila and Dick Dillon, have not been noticed doing anything out of the ordinary on the tracks,

-but they have been working usefully and are in nice condition. Black Lila was not paid up for on the first day of the summer carnival at Alexandra Park, but Dick Billon has an engagement in the St. Heliers. Handicap. The Australian pacer Nimble Direct has only had one race since arriving in New Zealand, and was unplaced on that occasion. Perhaps he may be seen to more advantage at Alexandra Park, where he is engaged in the Grandstand Handicap on the first day.
