The whole of the works at the Dobson mine are now practically flooded. Owing to the flooding of the Grey River all the electric pumpa have been removed out of the reach of the water and it has been decided to discontinue the pumping of water into the mine. As far as can- bo ascertained the matter of unwatering the mine for the purpose ofNrecovei-ing the bodies of the five entombed men is now entirely in the hands of the Government, and it is understood that an order has been cabled to England for special pumping machinery; The windows^ of the mine buildings which were shattered by the explosions liave been boarded up, indicating that,, the mine will remain idle for some time. There is a marked change in the appearance of the township, which is practically deserted during the day-, time. All the married men have beci found temporary, employment, and many of the miners have left for other places. The relief fund now totals £551, Mr. T. E. Y. ;Seddon, M.P.; has received the following telegram from the Minister of Mines: ''He validating legislation asked for by the Greymouth Borough Council for its proposed contribution to the Dobson Relief Fund: The Minister of Internal Affairs has replied that he is . looking into the matter,, and as requested by me will advise you in due '.course."
