TWO OTHERS BURNED
PETROL FUMES EXPLODE.

CHBISTCHUB.CH, 15th Dee. , One young woman 'is dead and: an» . dther seriously injured as the result ; of'the. explosion-"of .petrol fumes at Sumner yesterday. The name of the dead girl is Miss Hilda Heinzman, ag«A ,26 years. Miss Eatst Bowden (26) is , suffering from severe shock and severe burns to hands and bo dy. Miss Kathleen Bowden (20) was slightly burned about the head and hands.- ■ '"V.''Miss Bata Bowdeij. was cleaning an evening dress with petrol in: the kitchen, and Miss Heinzman had just ■ lit the gas iron when'a sheet of flame .swept tlie kitchen. : Though ■ herself badly burned; Miss Bowden, aided by her sister, rolled1 .Miss Heinzman in a mat in a plucky effoit to extinguish tn« flames. • . , '. ' .:■ ..'■■■ Miss Heinzman, whose home was »t Tai Tapu, had been boarding: with tKt Bowdens. She was on the staff of the Sumner School for the Deaf. She recently suffered from a nervous breakdown, and after a six months' vacation had only three .weeks ago' resumed.her duties at the institution. Miss Bata Bowden is c teacher at the Sumner School, and ehe and Miss Heinzman were to" have commenced' their annual vacation to-day and were contemplating a holiday.
