TOWN v. COUNTRY TO-MOEROW.

In view of the selection of the New Zealand team for England, considerable importance attaches to the scries of representative matches about to commence in "Wojlingtoii. The elect of players from the "Wellington country districts —Taranaki, Wanganui, Hawkes Bay, Kangitikei, Manawatu, and Nelson —are assembling in Wellington to-day for the annual match with tho town representatives, which is to start at the Basin Beserve to-morrow. Last year's match provided some of the brightest cricket ■on record, and with tho country team even stronger for this year's engagement, it is anticipated that the fixture will be even more entertaining than those played previously.. Tho match will extend over three days. In both teams there are a number Of likely candidates for the New .Zealand team, and more still will be . seen playing nest' Tuesday and Wednesday, when a special match for candidates for. the New Zealand team will be played at the Basin Beserve, the teams being representative of tho New Zealand minor associations 'and Wellington; . . . ■ -i This season 'a Plunket Shield matches are also likely to engage more attention than usual, and local supporters of the game will be favoured with, an opportunity from Christmas Day onwards of seeing the, chosen players of Otago and Wellington pressing their claims in the first match of tho series.
