(From Oiir Own Correspondent.)
CARTERTON, This Day.
Due to an innocent technical breach of the provisions of the Power Boards Act, Mr. J. C. Cooper, one of the Masterton Borough representatives on the Wairarapa Power Board, has been disqualified from office.
The breach occurred through the secretary of tho board purchasing meat for the workmen at the Kaurarau Camp from a Masterton butchering firm in which Mr. Cooper is interested.
'•Mr. Cooper was not aware of the transaction until the account came before the board, and the secretary of the board was not aware of Mr. Cooper's connection with the firm in question.
Tho Power Boards Act provides for a term of disqualification for three years, and as the technical breach occurred as far back as September, 1924, Mr. Cooper will be prohibited from taking a seat on the board until September, 1927.
Tho reason for the delay in revealing the position was due to the Audit Department not auditing tho Power Board accounts for over two years. Mr. Cooper has been a member of the board since its inception, and was tho first chairman of the b.ard. He was a member of the committee that had the Waiohino River investigated with a view of utilising it for electric power.
