"Our society is not catering for the vaudovillo public, and we therefore do not want vaudeville items at the competitions," said the chairman (Mr. H. A. Huggins) at the annual meeting of the Wellington Competitions Society last evening, when Mr. Culford Bell raised tho question of pure English. Mr. Bell said ho f oared that if young people were allowed to appear in vaudeville, or semi-vaudeville, turns, it was not in the ficst interests of pure speech. He realised, however, that this danger lay only in the classes where entrants could make their own selection. In the classes in which the society made stipulations as to the items to be given, thero was no danger. Have you seen Santa Claus in his ] new Log Cabin? If not you have missed a treat. He is at home daily and. won't he be pleased to shake you by the hand. Kirkcaldie and Staina, Ltd.— Advt.
