NAVY LEAGUE

The monthly meeting of the executive of t-he Wellington Navy League branch was held last evening, Sir Alexander Roberts presiding. Those present were: — Mrs. James Findlay, Commander 'Vivian, Captain Olphert, Miss .1 H Fowler, Messrs. A. Hollis, and E. W. Hunt,

Mrs. Findlny reported that the Ladies' Auxiliary Branch had preparations/ for the Queen Carnival well in hand.

Sir. K. Darroeh (secretary) reported that the following schools had entered the essay competition for the Palmer prizes:—Wellington Girls' College. New Plymouth Girls' High School, JUarton District High School, Epsom Girls' Grammar School, Maori Hill School (Dunedin), Shelboui-ne Street School (Nelson). Si. Mathew's Collegiate School (Masterton), Waitnki Boys' High School, Palmers ton North High School, Gisborne Boys' High ■School, Star of the Sea Convent (Seatoun), Brooklyn School (Wellington), Mtuigapupa School (Gisborne). Addington School (Christchurch), Terrace School (Wellington), and Timaru Boys' High School. ■ The examiners appointed by the Education Committee to judge the essays were the Hon. T. Shailer Weston, Captain T. Wilkes, Captain T. H. Chiidley, Mr. R. Bennett, Mr. Ultan M'Cabe, and JMr. J. S. M'Arthur. It wus suggested that remits to the annual conference, which will probably be held after the Royal visit, should 'be referred as early as possible to the Policy Committee.
