ART UNIONS
PERMITS ALMOST EXHAUSTED.
Art unions authorised by tho Minister of Internal Affairs, to bo held in aid of charities and for other purposes, arc now almost exhausted, and it is probable that the last will bo drawn towards the middle of February, five or six weeks before the date named by the Minister'for the prohibition of art unions. In the meantime, there are several art unions in progress and nearing completion.
It is understood that latterly, since the Minister imposed restrictions upon the value and nature of the prizes that may be offered, art unions have been by no means as profitable as they wore when promoters had a free hand in organising campaigns for raising funds by means of art unions. In fact, it is said that somo efforts have resulted in actual financial loss. The multiplicity of art unions held in recent months no doubt has had a great deal to do with this.
