ANNIVERSARY SERVICES

THOENDON METHODIST SUNDAY

SCHOOL.

The anniversary celebrations of the Thorndon Methodist Sunday School, which were held on. Sunday, proved an unqualified success.. Largo congregations attended morning and afternoon, whilst in the evening the church was crowded, the building being tastefully decorated with arum lilies and garlands of lycopodium. The morning service was conducted by the Bey. J. Dennis, who secured the attention of the scholars by a very interesting and helpful object lesson on "A Watch." In the afternoon, the Rev. R. J. Howie, 8.A., based his remarks on the word '' Watch,'' delivering in a lucid manner an appropriate address, showing how young people had to watch their actions, thoughts, companions, and Habits. Towards the close of the afternoon service, the Eev. R. J. Howie presented the prizes to the members of the infant department. The Bey. W. Greenslade, who conducted the evening service, drew many apt illustrations from "The Heart," from the physical and spiritual standpoints, and showed how the gateways to the spiritual heart were through the five senses. I At the various services, passages of Scripture were read exceptionally well by Missea Kathleen and Nancy M'Nab, El vie Aitken, Barbara Heath, and Masters Cecil Norris, Cyril Aked, and Bernard Williams. A special feature of the services was the splendid manner in which the scholars and choir rendered special hymns. The anthems "Fight On!" and "The Eoyal. Standard" were sung in a particularly pleasing manner, the solo parts being taken by Misses Enid Greenslade and Phyllis Freeman and Master Ernest Browne, while a duet was given by Miss Gentry and Master Roy Haggart. Much praise is due to Mr. W. G. Aked, under whose conductorship the special hymns and anthems were rendered. Misses Jessie Browne and Doris -Worboys officiated at the organ and piano respectively, and were ably assisted by an efficient orchestra. The celebrations will be continued on Wednesday evening, when the annual tea meeting and concert will be held.
