SNOW AND FROSTS REPORTED

PALMERSTON N., This Day
Following on the brilliant day of Wednesday last, Manawatu has experienced a very cold snap. On Thursday a heavy storm developed, with rain from the north and north-west, changing im the evening to the south. The barometer dropped to 29.4 in, and the thermometer to 43 degrees on Saturday, and while the barometric pressure remained practically the same the thermometer had fallen as low as 40 degrees. Sunday was also bitterly cold, the minimum reading of the thermometer being 38, and there .was a fall of snow on the higher levels between Ashhurst and Raumai and on the ranges north of Pohangina. Tho snow was still to be soon on tho latter ranges yesterday.
"The Post's" correspondent at Nelson reports that the weather there bocame cold on Saturday evening, and on Sunday morning tho Fringe Hill and the Maungatapu had a good covering of snow, as well as the ranges across the bay. A severe frost was experienced in tho valleys in the city yesterday morning, and some tomatoes and other plants wore out off. .Snow also fell on the ranges around Otaki.
