The liver Ayrshire, which caught fire near Colombo, was completely destroyed. The crew of a hundred were rescued by the City of Nagpur and the Aeneas. The warship Lupin was left in attendance on the derelict. The fire originated in the bunkers, which were quickly red hot. The flames spread amidships, blazing fiercely upwards of 150 feet.
