COMPLICATIONS

BANKRUPT DRESSMAKER

PAYMENTS TO PETITIONING

CREDITOR.

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening « J«t")

AUCKLAND, This Day

Tho adjourned meeting of the creditors of Mrs. Mabel Dando, formerly trading as a dressmaker under her maiden name, Mabel Lawrence, was held yestorday. ' The bankrupt was again unablo to appear on account of illness. The Official Assignee said that tht unsecured debts totalled over £COO. There wore no assets, but the bankrupt lui'l paid out about HH)O since adjudication, and this should be recoverable for tho general benefit of all the creditors. The bankrupt had apparently settled the debts in good faith. When proceedings wero initiated she had paid the petitioning creditor and thought that she had stalled off adjudication. She then paid the other creditors, in ignorance of tho fact that she was bankrupt. Owing to tho long delay in legal formalities, tho Assignee had not been informed of the bankrupt's position until several months after the adjudication. The parties who had given credit since tho bankruptcy would not be entitled to claim against the estate. A creditor mentioned that there wero further complications in. the fact that the bankrupt had been adjudicated under the name of Mabel Lawrence and had since received credit as Mrs. Dando. The meeting was again adjourned. Tho husband recently resigned after thirty years' service in the bank because ho had been made a bankrupt on tho guarantee of his wife's liabilities.
