AT WELLINGTON COLLEGE
AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING
PAST AND PEESENT PUPILS AT PLAY.
A Wellington College boy does not forget his old school, and is ever ready to do all ho can for it. Old boys arc most loyal to the college, and watch with interest the achievements of the present boys, both pcholastically and on the field of sport. For thirteen years a day has been set aside in each school yea?- on which ex-pupils return to the playing areas, where they as boys spent many a happy time. Old Boys Day at .Wellington College is indeed keenly looked forward to by past students, who make new friends and renew old acquaintances. They meet the masters who once taught them, and conversation centres round old times; they laugh and joke, and. refer to Smith primus, or somo other personage equally famous in their school days by his deeds. To-day Old Boys Day is being held on the College Grounds. Rivalry is keen in the various sporting activities, and past students are endeavouring to uphold their reputation against the present boys at cricket, tennis, shooting, swimming, and running. OLD BOYS WELCOMED. A welcome was extended to the old boys on the grounds by the actingprincipal of the college (Mr. A. C. Gifford). "We feel that we are exceedingly fortunate,'' said Mr. Gifford, '' in having such a splendid and. enthusiastic set of old boys. You have helped to make it a great college, and I am sure you will continue to support your old school." The annual gatherings afforded great pleasure both to, the old boys and present day's. They did a great deal to, -keep old boys in touch with the school, and to encourage the present boys to join the preseni group who had done so much. He hoped the weather would permit of somo excellent games being played. On the call of tho head prefect (P. S. Eamson), three cheers were given for the old boys. ' Dr. J. S. Elliott, on behalf of the Old Boys' Association, expressed thanks for the cordial welcome. "I also thank you," said Dr. Elliott, for the privilege of allowing the old boys to come here once a year and have what hitherto has been a most enjoyable day. One of the old boys told me this morning that he looked upon Old Boys' Day as the freest and happiest day of the year, and I am sure he expressed tho feeling of all of us."
