LOWER HUTT BUSES
REFUSAL OF LICENSE CPJT.ICISED.
At the meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council last night Mr. H. Ingham asked the council to endorse the appeal against the decision of the City Council, which had refused him a license to run buses between Lower Hutt, Petone, and Wellington. In reply to Councillor M'Bain, the Mayor said that he believed the City Council had refused a license because it Avas of the opinion that there were already sufficient buses running. The Mayor further said that he was not much concerned about the number of buses running, but he was concerned because this man had his buses built on the clear understanding that he would get a license. There was no doubt he had been unfairly treated. Councillor Teagle moved that the council endorse the application. It was a matter for the bus owners to say whether there Were sufficient buses on the road. Councillor Grierson seconded the motion. Councillor Hobbs said he thought the matter ought to be more fully considered. At present there was a service every quarter of an hour, and if the license was granted it would mean the rearranging of the time-table, and it was a question if this applicant had enough buses. He was not of the opinion that there Avas evidence that the present bus proprietors were not fully catering for the public. Councillor Watkins supported, the motion, which was carried unanimously.
