PRISONER KILLED

FALL OF EARTH IN QUARRY.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAUMARUNUI, 22nd Nov. An accident occurred this morning at a quarry near the Makotote viaduct, when through a fall of earth and rock a prisoner, Arthur Hasler, was killed, and another prisoner, Ronald Walter Neilson, had a leg broken. The men were carrying out drilling operations when the fall of earth came down from fifty feet up. Hasler was killed instantly. Neilson's leg was struck by a rock and he suffered a double fracture. A warder, Raton, who was standing a few feet away, escaped uninjured.
