PERSONAL MATTERS

The Minister of Health (the Hon. J. A. Young) -will leave on Wednesday for Te Kuiti, vhere he will open the new hospital. He will return to Wellington on Friday. The Hons. H. L. Michel, M.L.C., and J. Craigie, M.L.C., arrived from the South yesterday morning. The Bey. V. M' Glone and the Eev. M. Uhlenberg were ordained by Archbishop O'Shea at the 10.30 Mass yesterday forenoon at St. Joseph's Church, Buckle street. The Eev. G. E. Moreton, of the staff of St.. Paul's Cathedral in the department of social work, is on a visit to Wellington. Mr. Moreton preached at Wadestowu yesterday. To mark his retiremont after fifteen years' 3ervice, Mr..W. A. Gordon, who was secrotary of the Wellington brancli of the Bristol Piano Company, was presented on .Friday afternoon with a set of crystal ware from members of the staff of .tho local office. Mr. G. A. Hart, the new City Engineer, and his family, 'arc expected to arrive at Auckland by tho Arawa tomorrow, and will be met' by tho City Engineer of Auckland. They-will come on to Wellington after a brief stay in Auckland. Dr. M. H. Watt y Deputy DirectorGeneral of Health, leaves for Melbourne by the Marama on Friday noxt to attend a medical conference to consider tho question of tho prevention of the transmission of infectious diseases in the countrios bordering the Pacific. The conference will bo attended by roprosentatives of Great Britain, America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and tho Malay States. The funeral service of the late Canon J. C. Ecclcs, who died at Newmarket on Friday, aged 86, was conducted yesterday with full honours by the Loyal Black Prcceptory and Loyal Orange Institution, of which he had been a member for 70 years. Tho body is being taken by motor to Waipawa, where the deceased vicar lived, for many years. The interment takes place on Tuesday.
