CLUB REVIVED IN NAPIER,
When. Messrs. J. W. Norrie and N. A. M'Kenzie were in Wellington with the Hawkes Bay Rugby touring team they wero met by representatives of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association with a view to' endeavours being made to bring about a revival.of amateur athletics in Hawkes Bay. Already a good start has been made in Napier. A meeting was held there recently, and it was decided to resuscitate the Napier Amateur Athletic Club. Mr. N. A. M'Keuzie, who presided, optimistically forecasted a successful season if a club was formed, and considered that as plenty of material was available the time Was opportune to make a move. Mr. J. W. Norrifi moved that a club, to be called the Napier Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, be formed. The proposal was unanimously endorsed. Mr. X..D. D. M'Lcan was" elected patron and Mr. John Mason president. Messrs. N. A. M'Kcnzie and C. Lonergan were appointed joint secretaries, and a strong committee was formed. Exclusive of the committee, the membership of the club stands at 33. Tho manager of tho Gisborrie ladies' touring team expressed the willingness of tho team to compete at a meeting in Napier about 30th November or Ist December. The chairman intimated that a team of Napier lady athletes was being formed, and there was no doubt that they would put up a creditable performance should' they meet the visitors.
Great enthusiasm was displayed at the meeting, and it was decided to hold an evening sports meeting at the end of this month to launch the venture in earnest.
