IMPRISONED FOR ASSAULT

' An assault upon A. It. Jones, chief officer of the Relief-Department of Hie Auckland Hospital Board, had ils sequel in the Police Court, when Kenneth M'Leod, aged 75, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. Sub-Inspector Lewiu said accused went to the 6ffice seeking admission to the Auckland Infirmary. He had been drinking, and was told by Mr. Jones that while ho continued lo drink I ho board could do nothing for him. When asked to leave lh<; other, the old man struck Jones in flic face, breaking his glasses and injuring his eyes, and as the result Jones was conlined to his bed. The accused had previously been convicted of assault and drunkenness.
•Accused: "T had had ». few drinks, and did not know what I .was doing." The Magistrate imposed a, sentence of seven days' imprisonment.
