SUICIDE OF NOVELIST

• BELIEVED HE WAS A FAILURE. (United Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, 17th November. Mr. Allen Upward, the well-known novelist, was found shot through the heart at his rooms in Wimborne, Dorset. There is a grim irony underlying the tragedy of a man of brilliant gifts, who, after years of failure, published a sensational novel, "Domino Club," dealing with psycho-analysis, which was an immediate success, and one of the best sellers in America. Unfortunately, Mr. Upward decided that his efforts to get back were useless, and refused to believe evidence to the contrary, and died, believing he was a literary failure.
