MAYOR OF TIMARU

UNANIMOUSLY RE-ELECTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, 18th November. The Borough Council unanimously reelected Mr, G. J. Wallace, who resigned on Monday last at the suggestion of the Audit Department, Mayor of Timaru. Arising out of the fact that Mr. Wallace did engineering work for the borough council nine months before he joined the council, the account for which (£l9) was paid after he became Mayor and had sold his business, the Auditor-General wrote suggesting that he should refrain exercising the function of Mayor, or .councillor till such timo as he should have been re-elected, in which case no further action would bo necessary, A formal resignation, it was stated, would facilitate adjustments of the position.
