One of the largest gatherings ever held m New Zealand of the member, of the religious order of Marist Brother, and of old pupJs of the school will take pUc. in Wellington next month. The oceaaion wd be the celebration of tte^dderi country tHe Marißt BrOthera' in «* • community of brothers landed m Wellington in the year 1876 to commence the work of Catholic education that the/ have built up over the last half-cen-tS^ i. 4 he educational record* of the Marist Brothers' schools in New Zealand nave been fine ones, and to-day there an many men holding high poaitiona in the land who are proud of the early teaching they received at the hands of the brothers. The pupils of the brother*' school* nave also made a name for themsefte* in the fields of sport. It is well worthy of note, also, that the brothers labour with no thought of self. They are teachers who receive no other payment than the knowledge that they are doing the work that the high ideals of tneir Order inspire. It is not to be wondered at, therefore, that the coming jubille celebration* are being prepared for with; a maximum of enthusiasm by the various committees set up at the recent meetings held to prepare for the big event. The brothera will assemble in Wellington early in December from all over New Zealand, and later will come old boys from all part* of the country to show their appreciation for the \york of the Order. The first celebration will be on Sunday, 12th December, when a general Communion of all old boys and Catholic men will be held at St. Mary of the Angels, and thi* will be followed by a Communion breakfast. On the following evening in the Town Hall will be held a public celebration, when the brothers will be made a> presentation. This presentation is to be the practical side of the celebration, for it is hoped that it will be of sufficient monetary value to wipe out completely the big debt of £7000 which is encumbering the new Marist Training College at Tuakau. It is realised that a very special effort is needed to raise such a big *mn, and at the present time bands of coljeotors are organised gathering subscription* for the presentation.
