NEW STATE OF PARTIES
REPUBLICAN LOSS IN SENATE
SAFE MAJORITY IN HOUSE,
(United Press Association.—CopyrigHt.) NEW YORK, 4th November. The latest returns of the United States Congressional elections give the following state of parties:— SENATE. Republicans 48 Democrats 47 Farmer-Labourite 1 This shows the definite loss of control in that body by the Republicans. With no party having a definite majority, all the indications are that only legislation favoured by blocs composed of the various parties can hopo for passage through the Senate. The House of Representatives returns are still incomplete, but the present figures give the Republicans a safe majority of 31, as compared with a majority of 59 in the last House. The state of parties is now: — Republicans 233 Democrats 197 Farmer-Labourites 2 Socialists 2 Independent 1
