TWO-YEAR-OLD WENSUM SUCCESSFUL

RACE FOR THE OAKS,

(United Press Association.—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, 4tli November. For the third day of the V.R.C. MeettnK the attendance was larße. There was a rainstorm after the second race, and bolstrcous weather diirinc the running of the Linllthgow Stakes. The storm affected the going. Tantaroo was always prominent, and scored nicely in the Hurdles. He was originally raced in Adelaide, and was trained by the New Zealander D. J. Price. His time was a record The Wensum, after betnc third in the early part of the race for the Byron Moore Stakes, came throush to win handsomely, finishing in the best condition. The Wensum was bred in New Zealand, and cost his owner, Mr. Barlow, 525 guineas a s a yearling. The Wensum has now won twice. Valleare led to the turn in the Linlith_ow Stakes, but ran wide at the straight entrance, and was beaten comfortably by the winner i! the Cantala Stakes. Amounis, who got the best of the start. The winner is trained by .Frank M'Grath. The last half-mile occupied 4!)% seconds. The imported Star dOr, after lying sixth in the early portion of the journey for the Carnival Stakes, finished fast and won easily. He is raced by Naos's owner, Mr. Sol Green, and was ridden by the West Australian jockey N. Percival. There was an exciting finish for the Oaks. Lanson came alone well and scored by a narrow margin. She cost 100 guineas as a yearling. This was Jockey W. Duncan's first Oaks success. Lanson has now won four races. Master Vibrator, lying third in the first part of the Veteran Stakes race, led into the straight and scored nicely. He is trained by J. Holt for Heroic's owner, Mr. C. B. Kellow.
