BRITISH SAILORS' SOCIETY
An enjoyable concert was given at the rooms of the British Sailors' Society, 57, Lower Cuba street, on Tuesday. The party was arranged by Miss E. Tonks. Mr. N. S. Slyfield, of Petone, presided. Each item was greeted with applause, the performers having to grant encore after encore. Supper was served during the interval by the young ladies of the society. A hearty vote of thanks, proposed by the secretary, to Miss Tonks and her party, wai carried with acclamation by the large audience. Items were contributed by Mrsl Gardiner, Misses Brice, Shephard, Freeman, Bailey, B. Ferguson, snd Tonks, Meß«rs. Gardiner, Carr, Ham, North, and Master Shephard. The accompanists for the evening were Mr. Gardiner and Miss E. Tonks. On Wednesday, the usual midweek social evening was held, a goodly number ot seamen being present. Songs, games, etc., were indulged in, and a very happy time spent till 10,15 p.m.. Supper was handed round during the evening.
