" Eight States, with the exception of New York voted by 3 to 1 for a modification of the Vol§tead Act. Tha Illinois voters apparently endorsed a similar proposal. A substantial majority at Wisconsin favoured a petition for 2.75 per cent, alcohol in beer, Nevada appeared to bo in favour of modification in tho shape of on appoal to Congress. California and Montana voted for tho repeal of State Enforcement Acts. Missouri and Colorado are recording majorities in the negative Later returns ahow that Missouri voted "dry," owing to th« overwhelming sentiment of the rural districts favouring Prohibition. Colorado also voted "dry." Montana joined the "wets."
