It is stated that Trotsky, Zinovieff, and Kameneff broke silence at tho Communist Conference and defended their criticisms of Stalin's administration. Trotsky maintained vigorously that unity was imperative In wartime, but Russia had now reached the stage where opposition was necessarr or desirable. Stalin, amid hubbub, declared that the central committee by its dismissal of the opposition leaders had taken tho only possible course for the security of Soviet Russia.
