STANDARDISATION

VALUE TO THE EMPIRE

(United Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, 2nd November.

The Economic Sub-committee of the Imperial Conference has completed a most comprehensive survey of industrial standardisation, which revealed most significant facts; for instance, the reduction from several hundreds to 113 categories of iron and steel products would enable a reduction in the costs of production by 5s a ton. It was ascertained that £25,000,000 is invested in wholesale ironmongery, and that even a moderate degree of. simplification. and standardisation would liberate one-fifth of the capital at present locked up in the business therein. Similarly, the amount of £4,000,000 the present value of the Binpiro stocks of electric lamps, might be halved by standardisation.
