POISONED FISH
PROSECUTION WITHDRAWN. *<
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)'
CHRISTCHUROH, This Day. In April last the matter of the poisoning of trout in the Avon Rivor received a great deal of attention. Thousands of fish were found floating down the river dead, apparently poisoned, but a careful examination of the fish failed to show definitely the nature of the poisoning. Later, it was reported that the source of the trouble had beeu found. Yesterday in the Magistrate's Court a prosecution was brought by the Acclimatisation Society against T. "W. Armstrong, Leonard Farr, and Peter Gibson for allowing dangerous liquids to flow into the river, but it was then intimated that the society did not propose to tender evidence in support ot the charge, which accordingly was dismissed with costs against the society. Mr. White, for the defendants, stated that the evidence would have shown that they were not responsible for the trouble.
